MAYBELLINE COLOR ELIXIRS {REVIEW AND SWATCHES}

Maybelline dominate the drugstore lip product options and captivate us beauty addicts. This time last year it was the Color Whispers making an appearance on every beauty blog and I am pleased to say that Maybelline have not disappointed us with this new lip product release of the Color Elixirs. I have seen much hype surrounding these beautiful tubes of colour so I was eager to give them a go as soon as I could. Especially since when I first saw them my initial thoughts were how similar they are to a product that I love dearly, the Dior Fluid Sticks, particularly regarding the packaging and concept. Seeing that the Dior product is $50 and that this Maybelline one is a mere fraction of that price, I was excited to see not only what the product was like but also how it compared to similar products on the market. I'm glad to finally see these hit our shores considering the US has had them for almost a year now so let's get into examining these.

Colour
I absolutely love the colour selection that this range offers because it's much more diverse than most other drugstore lip ranges that are on the market. They've got you covered for all sides of the colour spectrum with reds, peaches, nudes, purples and lots of variations of pink. As you can see from my spread photo above, I have six of the colours and a lot of colour selection in there. I have popped the names of the shades below the swatches photo so that you can see the colour order.

Pigmentation
With such bold colours, as some of these shades are, it's hard to find a product that accurately reflects the colour in the tube and gives the shade justice. As you can tell from the swatches below I think that the colours depicted in the tubes are a fair representation of what kind of colour you will get on your lips. As with most product ranges there are hits and misses depending on the colour. The most impressive would be Hibiscus Haven and Vision in Violet which both surprised me with their pigmentation as I was expected a much more muted version of what was shown in the tube since they are such bright colours. The most disappointing would be Petal Plush since I was expecting a soft baby pink but instead received a barely there tinted pink gloss. It's of course still a fantastic product that could be used for so many looks, it's just not the colour I was expecting.

085 Hibiscus Haven, 100 Petal Plush, 060 Nude Illusion, 020 Signature Scarlet, 025 Mauve Mystique and 040 Vision in Violet.

Consistency
The one aspect that can ruin a lip product like this most is if it's sticky or tacky so I am pleased to report back that these have a great formulation. They're just the right amount of tacky that you know the product is there and the colour adheres very well to your lips but it's not annoying. I actually like that these have a slight amount of tackiness because it means that the product moves around less and leaves that freshly applied look for much longer than a smoother product would.

Application
The doe foot sponge brush helps for a precise application and applies smoothly without any streakiness. The applicator is also great because it's firm enough so that you have lots of control over it while still being flexible so that you can apply it well.

Scent
These Color Elixirs have a sweet vanilla scent that is quite lovely. It doesn't taste the best so I don't recommend accidently getting some in your mouth (I obviously never recommend eating makeup) but the scent is great.

Cost and Accessibility
You can get your hands on these anywhere that Maybelline is stocked including places such as Priceline, Kmart, Target, Chemist Warehouse, supermarkets and chemists. These retail for $17.95 each but I'm sure you could catch them on sale if you're patient enough to wait.

My overall opinions on this product are that Maybelline have produced an extremely high quality product especially based on the price and that they compare to high end products of a similar concept. They are perfect for everyday use due to their formulation and huge colour selection so that there's a shade for every occasion.

Thank you for reading.
