For us busy girls on the go, few things are worth as much as the commodity of time and we sure don't have hours to spend on our nails each week. Due to this, the time that we do put into our nails has to be worth it and go the distance so I have complied the best tips and tricks to extending the life of your manicure. Follow these tips and your polish will last at least 10 days.
Avoid Using Thinners
It may be tempting to try and get the last few applications out of your favourite nail polish but you will be much better off just getting a new bottle. Thinners in your nail polish greatly decrease their longevity and manipulates the formulation often making it bubbly and more prone to peeling.
Bare Those Nails Before Application
Ensure to remove all oils leftover on the nails and polish residue prior to applying a fresh coat. Many nail polish brands have lint-free cotton pads that you can use for this purpose and they're usually quite affordable. I first heard of this tip when I tried the Fuse Gel Nail Enamel kit and they were included in there.

Back to Bases
I'm all about that base (kind of like Meghan Trainor but a slightly different context) when it comes to a fool proof manicure. Applying a base allows for your nail colour to adhere much better to the nail resulting in a much longer lasting nail colour less prone to chipping. The best kind are sticky bases that leave a tacky residue on the nail but most bases also protect your nails from colour staining so they're worthwhile anyway.

Seal the Open Edge
By wrapping the nail polish around the edge of the nail, it ensures a more secure position for the varnish. Whatever you do to the surface of the nail should also be done to the top edge. The main reason behind this is to prevent water damage from coming between the nail polish and lifting it therefore avoiding chipping.
Can't Handle the Heat
Your manicure can't handle the heat due to nail polish taking up to 12 hours to cure so avoid hot yoga, saunas, hot tubs, steaming showers and blow dryers for around half a day after painting your nails.
Top if Off and Oil it Up
Finish your manicure with a top coat that will ensure a protective barrier that will seal in your nail colour. Again ensuring to seal the edge of the nail to neatly wrap up your manicure. You can apply a clear nail polish every couple of days and this will make a huge difference in how long your manicure lasts. Cuticle oils are a great way of keeping your nail beds and surrounding hand area moisturised and healthy.
So keep these tips in mind for the next time you're looking for a long-lasting manicure.
