If you have been following my blogs or videos for a while now, you would be well aware of my love for the Chanel Mat Lumiere foundation. But how does Estee Lauder Double Wear compare?
Chanel Mat Lumiere was actually the first high end foundation that I ever tried and I have repurchased it at least 10 times (yep at $72 per bottle that's a lot of moolah on foundation). So when I finally figured it was time to venture out into the many other options in high end foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear immediately stuck out to me since I have heard so many bloggers rave about it. I was surprised to find that I loved Double Wear just as much as my Chanel Mat Lumiere and so today we're putting them to the test and comparing them to see which fairs as better.
Consistency / Wear
Double Wear slightly feels like you are putting paint on your face since it goes on very thin then dries to feel like you're wearing plastic on your face. Mat Lumiere is a much nicer consistency because it's water based and has a hydrating feel making it easier to apply and wear.

Colouring
Double Wear has a slight orange undertone that at times can look a bit cheap but if you are fake tanned then it would be perfect for you. Double Wear has a much better colouring since it looks a lot more natural but at times can be a bit light while the colour up is too dark so sometimes I can't find my perfect match. With all of that in mind, I much prefer the natural looking Mat Lumiere colour that is slightly too light compared to the orange toned Double Wear.

Price and Availability
As mentioned earlier, the Chanel Mat Lumiere retails for a steep $72 per bottle while the Double Wear is $50. Now although the Estee Lauder foundation is a good $22 cheaper, let's not fool ourselves thinking $50 is cheap for a foundation and keep in mind that it's still a fair amount to pay which I took into consideration when voting. Both foundations are available from department stores such as Myer and David Jones.
Double Wear: 8/10
Mat Lumiere: 4/10
Mat Lumiere: 4/10
Longevity
Estee Lauder Double Wear is fantastic when it comes to longevity and time able to be worn before it starts to fade. I can wear it for an entire day and it will still remain on my skin and not patchy at all. The only reason I'm not giving it full points is because it does crease at times and sink into fine lines so it's definitely not a good foundation for older skin. Mat Lumiere is a much more moisturising consistency but it can go patchy throughout the day.
Double Wear: 9/10
Mat Lumiere: 5/10
Mat Lumiere: 5/10
The Verdict
So to conclude this comparison... I wish someone would take the best components out of both of these foundations then blend them together to create the perfect foundation. Both the Chanel Mat Lumiere and Estee Lauder Double Wear are great foundations but they each have a few flaws and it comes down to what you are willing to compromise on. If consistency and colour are your main concerns then Chanel Mat Lumiere is the foundation for you but if you're mainly looking at price and longevity, so really the value of the foundation, then definitely go with Estee Lauder Double Wear.
I would be lying if I said I haven't mixed these two foundations together or used them in combination on different parts of my face. For me, I love each of them for different reasons so until I find a product that encompasses all of my needs for consistency, colouring, price and longevity...I will be using and repurchasing both of these foundations.
