IN FRONT OF THE LENS- ELYSE FROM THE FELIX AND SLINK GROUP

Introducing "in front of the lens" - a series dedicated to successful women. Capturing the essence of their career, what they have learned along the way and any advice they have to share.

In this first installment of the series we have Elyse Goyen from The Felix and Slink Group and a finalist for Telstra Young Business woman of the Year. Elyse is right in the middle of the PR world and I met her at an incredible media afternoon tea she helped put on. I was inspired by her amazing work and intrigued to learn more about her passion, likes and dislikes as well as a few hints to her fave beauty products.

Read on to hear more about this successful, inspiring and beautiful woman!

How did you decide on the career path you wanted to follow?
To be honest, my career path has changed quite a few times and definitely didn’t go in the direction I thought it would

I started in law school, and dropped out after five weeks. It took me quite a few months to figure out what I actually wanted to do and in 2008 I commenced a degree in Journalism. In my first class the lecturer told us that by the end of our degree, only a few would get jobs – which was mildly concerning so I added business to my degree.

At the time my only exposure to the world of PR was Samantha Jones in Sex and the City… I learnt a lot in the first few weeks.

What is your favourite part about your role at The Felix and Slink Group?
Is it lame if I say everything... except maybe finance and legal? I love being on the go and being around people, so for me events days are always really fun – bumping in, managing talent, dealing with media and greeting people on the door – it’s all such a blast!

What do you find most challenging about field you work in?
Managing expectations – of clients, staff, media, suppliers. 100% the most challenging part of my job.

What are your 3 must have beauty products on the job?
·YSL Touche Eclat. Some days (and weeks) I get very little sleep! This gold pen is definitely my secret weapon – makes me look well rested with just a few clicks!
·Sephora Collection Pomegranate Facemasks. These are an absolute must have in my beauty cabinet. I would easily use one a week, usually the night before a client event or important meeting. They honestly leave your skin looking fresh to death – I’m obsessed!
·Lucas Paw Paw – which is probably a staple in almost every woman’s makeup bag. I use this for absolutely everything – on scars, dry hands, bites, my lips – even on my eyelids and lashes – I swear it’s not that weird.

Do you have any advice for women who might be graduating their degree or looking to break into the workforce?
I’m very lucky to work in an industry where a woman’s success isn’t limited by her gender. In my industry, the trailblazers and rule breakers are often women which I think is amazing. My best advise would be to be yourself – find a way to stand out and always persevere. If you want something, prove it. I’ll take note of someone who picks up a phone to talk, it almost always leaves an impression on me.

I hope you have enjoyed hearing more about Elyse and learning from her experiences. Look out for more in this series coming very soon.
