I truly believe in continued learning and one of the best ways to be continually educating yourself is definitely achieved through reading. With each book read, it has the ability to refine your knowledge and shape your mindset for the better.
So I'm back again with a recap on 5 books I've read lately! There are some seriously good reads in here so I can't wait to share some of these goodies with you!
9. You Are a Badass at Making Money – Jen Sincero
I really wanted to read this one towards the start of 2019 because I thought it would be perfect for addressing my money mindset and ensuring I go into the year with the right mentality on finances. I can easily say that this definitely helped me refocus on what is important for me financially. As usual, Jen Sincero never fails to make me laugh while still delivering important to hear messages. Its main purpose is breaking down the topic of money and removing all the negative connotations that come along being rich. She gives great examples, explaining that there is nothing noble about remaining poor and that you need money to fulfil your potential on this earth. If that all sounds hippy-dippy I promise you it's full of practical advice that is great for restructuring your money mindset.
Key Takeaways
“Worrying is praying for stuff you don't want.”
“What you focus on you create more of.”
“RICH: Able to afford all the things and experiences required to fully experience your most authentic life.”
“When it comes to changing your life, if you’re not scared, you’re doing something wrong.”
10. Get Your Shit Together - Sarah Knight
I am always so undecided when it comes to Sarah's books! While I appreciate the humour, sometimes I feel it lightens her messages too much and doesn't provide enough emphasis on the actual takeaways. Regardless, this is a perfect light read when you are feeling uninspired, exhausted or worn out from your crazy life. It teaches you foolproof methods to calm down, relax and prioritise better.
Key Takeaways
“You can’t give of yourself to others if there’s nothing left of yourself to give, can you?”
“Proven fact: You can never finish something you didn't start.”
“The life-changing magic of not giving a fuck is all about prioritizing. Joy over annoy. Choice over obligation. Opinions vs. feelings.”
“Big life changes are made in small, manageable chunks.”
11. The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle
This is an absolute must-read for anyone going on a bit of a spiritual journey or looking to explore themselves deeper. It inspires you to look at your life as the present moment and to live within the "now" to be fully being. There are some very insightful nuggets of wisdom in this book that help restructure your mentality towards living.
Key Takeaways:
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”
“Any action is often better than no action, especially if you have been stuck in an unhappy situation for a long time. If it is a mistake, at least you learn something, in which case it's no longer a mistake. If you remain stuck, you learn nothing.”
“If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. Primary reality is within; secondary reality without.”
“What a caterpillar calls the end of the world we call a butterfly.”
“It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.”
“...the past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfilment in whatever form. Both are illusions.”
12. 50 Ways to Yay - Alexi Panos
Firstly, I don't like how cheesy the title of this book is but thought I would give it a go anyway. I am so glad I did! I loved how straight to the point this book was an how it touched on so many different concepts briefly. This allowed you insight into many different strategies you could implement into your life to lead a happier existence. The shortness of each strategy means you could easily miss the brilliance being shared, as jumping from one thing to the next so quickly doesn't give you time to stop and pause. This might be a fantastic book to read over the period of a year, trying out one strategy each week to fully allow the teachings to sink in. Overall, I felt like I was getting a summary of 50 individual self-help books which was awesome in terms of diversity and quick learning of many topics.
Key Takeaways:
"It’s not about what life has dealt you, it’s about how you respond to it."
"Vulnerability is relatable. Perfection is not."
"Those who are happy with nothing are happy with everything."
I wasn't expecting to love this audiobook as much as I did! This Audible exclusive takes you behind the scenes on personal coaching sessions with, I think, 5 clients in total. Each of these individuals is struggling in an area of their life and are seeking Mel's assistance for a breakthrough. You listen to the entire session, learning their stories and listening to Mel break down what is really going on with them. This is an incredible book for self-reflection because you can see little parts of yourself in each of the clients so the teachings resonate in different ways. Topics dealt with include; weight, addictions, procrastination, relationships etc. These brutally honest and striking conversations and truly life-changing to listen to. It also makes you much more aware of your actions and why you might behave in certain ways you do. It's all about identifying the underlying meanings of the current reality these people are experiencing. Showing that with some self-reflection and insight, you have all the power you need to change your situation.
Key Takeaways;
Everything you do is for a reason - you have to get to the root of what is happening.
We decide to become victims of our circumstance or we want something more from our lives and take the responsibility of changing our situation.
I hope you have enjoyed my review and hearing more about all of these killer reads! What have you been reading lately?
