Including Lost Loved Ones In New Celebrations

Holidays are always going to come around again, and when you’ve lost a loved one, these festive periods become a lot harder than ever before. After all, it can feel wrong to celebrate when someone you love is no longer there, especially if they were a big fan of the holiday or occasion themselves.

However, the person you’ve lost wouldn’t want you to have a bad holiday, and that’s something you should always keep in mind. They’d want you to have fun, and spread cheer, and in doing so, you can continue to involve them in your festive celebrations. Without further ado, here are some great ideas for doing that.

Set Out a Personal Food Spread

Food is always a big deal during holiday events, and when you’ve recently lost someone you love, it’s a good idea to set out some food that they loved. When you’re preparing it, you’ll put some real love into the mix, and when you’re eating it, it’ll spark plenty of conversations with your surrounding friends and/or family.

You could even just order in their favorite takeaway or fast food, if you don't have much time to put a spread on. Whatever they loved to snack on, make sure it’s there for you to enjoy as well.

Keep a Part of Them Around

Losing a loved one is something that takes a lot of time to get used to. You don’t quite know what to do with yourself without them, and there are a lot of things in your immediate surroundings that still remind you of them. And because of this, you might be dreading just how difficult an upcoming holiday is going to be.

But instead of facing away from reminders of your loved one, why not embrace this idea? After all, if you want to still feel their presence during the festive period, it might be a good idea to invest in Keepsakes by Memorials.com, to ensure you have a little piece of them with you at all times.

Take Some Time for Them

Finally, if your loved one particularly loved the holiday you’re celebrating (Christmas, Halloween, etc.), be sure to take a couple of minutes to remember them specifically. Don’t brush their memory under the rug, or leave the subject of them being brought up to chance - purposefully choose to remember them, even if just for a minute’s silence.

Of course, tailor the time you take to them specifically. If they were a funny person, recall some of their best jokes, or if they loved to sing, put their favorite song on. All in all, make sure you do something that’ll help you to feel like your loved one is still involved with your celebrations.

Losing a loved one is hard already, but it can be made harder in the festive seasons. Make sure you can commemorate your loved one in little ways that make you feel like they’re still a big part of your life.
