How To Get Yourself To Smile More

Children smile hundreds of times per day. They’re not bogged down by the challenges of life, experiencing relationship strife, or worrying about money. Instead, they’re happy and free in their spirits. Nothing seems to faze them.

The same, though, isn’t true of adults. We’re constantly anxious about the future, and we’re always thinking about the past. Our minds wander all over the place.

Because of this, we smile less. But that’s not where the problems stop. Lack of smiling is an epidemic in our society. When people don’t smile, they feel less content and happy about their lives. Joy goes out of the window. They want to feel good, but their lack of smiling gets in the way.

Smiling is actually the key to happiness. The more joyful and bright we are, the happier we will be.

The trick is to get yourself to smile more. But how? Here’s a rundown:

Spend Time Every Day Being Grateful

Your attitude towards life can make a big difference in how often you smile. Just thinking about something good in your life is often enough to totally change how you feel about it.

Spend some time thinking about the positives in your life. Focus on what you have to be grateful for. Steep yourself in a process of gratitude, being thankful for all the things that you have and the experiences that you enjoy. Avoid the habit of focusing on what you don’t have or the problems in your life. Exercise your gratitude muscle and see where it leads you.

Improve Your Confidence

Sometimes people don’t smile because they feel shy about their teeth. At first, it is a conscious habit. But over time, it becomes unconscious. Eventually, smiling stops entirely, even in situations that would have caused laughter before.

The trick here is to feel good about your smile again. Getting a smile makeover, for instance, can totally transform your confidence. Fixing crooked teeth, replacing missing teeth and whitening can all make a tremendous difference in how you feel.

Set A Reminder To Smile

Setting a reminder to smile on your phone can also help. Research shows that the mere act of smiling is enough to make you feel happy. The moment you engage the smiling muscles in your face, the whole world feels better.

Spend Some Time Smiling In Front Of The Mirror

Similarly, you might want to spend some time practising smiling in front of the mirror. This way, you can start associating smiling with your daily routine and with yourself. When you see yourself smiling, it changes your impression of yourself. You feel differently from before.

Spend More Time With Uplifting People

Lastly, you might also want to spend more time with uplifting people. Find people in your life who have your best interests at heart. Look for individuals who are always joyful and can help propel you to the next level, both emotionally and spiritually. Don’t waste time around those who bring you down, particularly if you can’t cope.
